The 2024 Survey on Gambling in the ACT
You've been invited to take part in a 15-20 minute phone survey about gambling behaviors in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The survey aims to understand gambling activities, problems, and harms in the ACT community. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can skip any questions you're not comfortable answering or end the survey at any time.
What do I receive for participating?
This research is being conducted by CQUniversity on behalf of the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission. The research team includes Professor Matthew Rockloff, Professor Matthew Browne, Dr. Nerilee Hing, and Associate Professor Alex Russell.
Ipsos Australia is a partner research organisation that is surveying people, via telephone, in the ACT.
The results of this study will be published in a report for the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission. This report will include only summary data and statistics - no individual responses will be identifiable. The findings may also be presented at conferences or in academic publications.

Confidentiality / Anonymity
Your privacy is important to us. Your responses will be completely anonymous - we don't collect any identifying information. Your phone number, provided by Telstra for the purpose of this survey, will be securely held by Ipsos (our data collection partner) and destroyed after the study is complete. There will be no way to link your responses back to you.

By participating, you're contributing to important research that aims to understand and reduce gambling-related harms in the ACT. This could lead to better policies and support programs. The main risk is the possibility of minor discomfort if discussing sensitive topics related to gambling. Remember, you can skip any questions you're not comfortable with.
If throughout the study you feel that you may experiencing a gambling related problem, please contact the Gambling Helpline at http://www.gamblinghelponline.org.au/ or phone 1800 858 858. These services can be contacted anonymously, free of charge, and without the need for a referral.
Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary, and you are free to withdraw from the study at any point without question or consequence. Once your survey is complete, however, we will have no record of your individual responses.
